Growing up in a mixed-race household, embracing my naturally curly hair was a challenge. As I grew older, I would experiment with my hair as well as my siblings and mom. This was the start of my passion without me even knowing it. While attending cosmetology school, curly hair was just another chapter in the textbook without any real field experience, which led me to OUIDAD. Through the years of trial and error with my own curly hair including coloring and cutting as much as I wanted, I’ve learned to appreciate the art that is curly hair. With a passion for color and curls, I want to help men and women embrace, love, and nurture their natural curly hair as much as I’ve grown to love mine.

Hi there! I’m Joelis, a proud Dominican girl who found her heart in New York City. Growing up in a bustling household with eight siblings (six of them being sisters), I naturally became the go-to hairstylist among us. My journey in the world of hair started with a leap of faith as I pursued my dreams. I ventured to the sunny shores of Los Angeles to attend Toni and Guy school, where I honed my skills and officially became a hairstylist. My career then took an exciting turn as I collaborated with incredible photographers for various magazine publications and had the privilege of working with models and actresses on captivating film projects and advertising campaigns. But my path led me back to my roots, where I discovered the immense need for curly hair specialists. With a deep appreciation for family and friends, I found my calling working behind the chair at the Santa Monica Ouidad salon. Recently, my family and I decided to embark on a new adventure by joining the Ouidad salon right here in the heart of New York. Beyond the world of hair, I’m an avid lover of nature. You can often find me hiking in the great outdoors or basking in the serenity of the beach. And as a proud Latina I love to dance! I’m absolutely thrilled to meet you and be your trusted companion on your curly hair journey! Let’s embrace those gorgeous curls together.
